About filos game idea.

Ok, Im going to say that the idea was pretty amazing, and I think it'd be a cool game.
If Filo wants to make it, then lets do it!
But... theres 2 ways to do it.
1. We use something like Unity, which is a game engine which you create the game in the engine.
2. You program it with a Framework, such as XNA.

Filo's edit: You know, there's that thing called Source SDK. Now the thing is that it's available to all the people who bought any Source game, but there's a workaround. There always is.

If you chose the first, then I'd go with Unity, or another one if we can find it, I've tried the Unreal engine, and its awesome, but to mke it, you need one hell of a computer to run the editor.

If you chose the second then this is what I've been researching for the last two weks or so.
I've found several which would probably be good.
XNA framework Microsofts framework for game creation, can be used to make windows games, XBOX games and Zune games. (C#)
FlatRedBall A simple framework which can be used to simplifiy the use of XNA, requires XNA (C#)
Panda3D A game engine which seems to be favoured by Disney... they made ToonTown online and Pirates of the caribbean online with this thing! (C++)
Theres plenty others, but they are more of addons.

That I won't download a 200some mb file only to replace what I already got with a 50mb file. Seriously, Blender 2.5 is awesome.

...is it because you have unity but not blender? seriously, blender is OK if you read the manuals and tutorials.

Actualy I have both, aswell as the Unreal engine, but thats not the point, Blender wasn't designed to be a game engine, it started off as a 3D modeling program.

Re: About filos game idea.

Yes, but it has a powerful built in game engine which supports advanced physics (Bullet engine; comparable with Source physics - GTA IV uses it), caustics, advanced character animation, advanced level creating, supports importing pre-built terrains (from terragen 1 or others). Just switch view from "model/default" to "game".
Game programming is very intuitive, with all key functions visualised, so the low-level programming is just clicking buttons and dragging lines. More about it:

Re: About filos game idea.

i agree with MP56, blender is more of a modeling program. actually, I would love it it you guys could make some models for the game on blender. I am horrible at it.

Re: About filos game idea.

Well, OK. But - Blender starts up as a modelling program, but you can change the workspace into game creation. Blender is versatile, and you can create great games with it. Besides, Unity slaps its logo at the beginning of the game. That's just rude.

They have the right too, if they let you use it for free, but its not open source. And thats what you get with most games, the adverts, such as Microsoft game studios, activision, bungie, ea etc. etc.

Re: About filos game idea.

First, logos at the beginning of the game don't credit the game engine. They credit the company/organisation which made the game. Granted, Unity has the right, but we have the right to choose other engine. Seriously, Unity doesn't have that kind of capabilities for a game I'm talking about.
