[Game] Blender Game Engine Pros and Cons

It's cool, because we have Python scripters here - and Blender uses Python ALOT.
It's cool, because I think you can make it cross-platform.
It's cool, because it's free and easy (after you get used to the interface, though)
It's cool, because many parts of the programming are visual (logic bricks, etc.)

It may suck, because Blender 2.5 crashes ALOT in alpha I'm using
It may suck, because BlenderPlayer isn't stable yet

Discuss.

Re: [Game] Blender Game Engine Pros and Cons

Everytime I try to have another go at blender, I try, I find a tutorial, I give up because it never works out.

The pros win 2:1, except for the alpha crashing bit.

Neither, python is over confusing for me, and blender is just plain annoying for me. If you don't mind, ill just stick to my part and play with C.

Re: [Game] Blender Game Engine Pros and Cons

MP56, you might be able to help me in Unity with your C skills. One of it's many programming languages is C#

*Actually, I found out these all were crashes caused by misuse or abuse of a feature, or lack of system resources.

Also, I can use blender, and one of us can program in Python, so this means that we can do it.

@markyparky: Cool, you'll help with adjusting and compiling the Blender Game Player for Linux and Mac.

Re: [Game] Blender Game Engine Pros and Cons

nvm, they already did it. OK, so here's my point: Blender really is OK for games, has some great physics and good supports all the new, gimmicky HD stuff. Either that or Unreal Engine, because I personally don't like the idea of a game engine slapping its logo before the game, as Unity does. It'd be like a printing company putting a page with their logo before anything else in a book they print. It simply doesn't keep the professionalism I'm looking for.

Re: [Game] Blender Game Engine Pros and Cons

The difference being that Unreal means something to gamers, and Unity does not. Anyway, does Unity support Bullet physics?

Likely, but will you need bullet physics in your game?

NVM, it's just that it's the best free physics library.
